Mark D. Gelernt, M.D., F.A.C.C.

Non-Invasive Cardiology

Dr. Gelernt serves as director of Echocardiography for the Heart House, where the ECHO lab has been certified as a center of excellence by ICAEL for over a decade.  He also directs the clinical research program at the Heart House, where cutting edge clinical trials are ongoing. Through collaboration with major cardiovascular centers such as Duke University and Massachusetts General Hospital/Brigham and Women’s Hospital, he manages inpatient and outpatient studies in diverse and important cardiovascular areas including cholesterol managment, treatment of congestive heart failure, arrhythmia management, coronary artery disease, and valvular disease.  Working in conjunction with highly trained and compassionate staff, he helps bring new, cutting edge procedures and therapies to our patients.

Dr. Gelernt is focused on quality healthcare for all his patients, and has a strong interest in the future of medical care.  He is serving on the Board of Directors for the Heart House.  Additionally, he is in his second term as Medical Staff President for Inspira Healthcare, where he also serves on the Board of Directors. He continues to help the system develop new programs to improve care, including the STEMI program for acute heart attack patients, a dyspnea/pulmonary hypertension program for those with shortness of breath, and a streamlined CVA/TIA protocol to help those with acute neurologic syndromes receive more efficient, less costly care with improved quality outcomes. He helps monitor quality performance standards and results for the system, and developed an improved and more robust performance improvement process; as a result, quality and costs for patients in the system have continued to improve.  In his adminstrative role, he also works closely with the Graduate Medical Education department to help improve training for our future physicians.
